When we started this company in early 1999, we envisioned GPS going far beyond providing distances. The Internet was just emerging and we saw the combination of golf, GPS, and the Internet as a tremendous opportunity for golf enthusiasts. Distance was only part of the equation, harnessing the statistical performance of each round was the full potential.
In 2000, we introduced a comprehensive package that was tested by hundreds of golfers throughout the US. Players used GolfLogix GPS to track their club selection and automatically log the distance of each shot. At the end of their round, each player received a 3-page Post-Game Printout™ that featured a full-color map of their round—hole-by-hole, shot-by-shot—along with a detailed online statistical analysis of their shot distances and club selection. The system was very well received, but we shelved-it for a later date because we were far ahead of the adoption curve for the golf industry at that time and golf courses, who were our primary customers, really wanted our distance-only application installed as an amenity to speed play. We recognized the power of our innovative tracking and performance analysis system and pursued a patent to protect it which was filed in 1999 and granted to us in 2003.
Today, GPS is everywhere and the market now sees what more can be done. Our time has come and we are eager to offer a comprehensive shot-to-web solution. Our future direction is to give golfers a complete look at every shot they take and the ability to sync this data with previous rounds. Take a peek at what we are working toward.
